Beyond Pride Month: Everyday Actions to be an Ally

Discover how you can be an effective ally for Pride and support our LGBTQI+ colleagues and community through meaningful actions and Dimply's commitment to inclusivity.

We’re over halfway through Pride Month for another year. Now is the time to reflect and remember that while Pride may be highlighted and celebrated once a year, our colleagues, clients, friends, family and the whole community deserve to experience support all year round. At Dimply, we believe that being an ally is about taking meaningful actions to support our LGBTQI+ colleagues and wider community and fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for everyone. Here are some ways each of us can be effective allies, along with the steps we are taking as a company to uphold these values.

How You Can Be an Ally

  1. Educate Yourself: Understanding the challenges and experiences of the LGBTQI+ community is the first step in being an ally. Take the time to learn about the history of Pride, the significance of different identities, and the issues that LGBTQI+ individuals face.
  2. Speak Up Against Discrimination: If you witness discriminatory behaviour or language, speak up. Addressing micro-aggressions and other forms of discrimination can create a safer and more inclusive environment.
  3. Use Inclusive Language: Language has the power to include or exclude. Use inclusive language that respects and acknowledges all gender identities and sexual orientations. Avoid assumptions about someone’s gender or sexual orientation.
  4. Support LGBTQI+ Initiatives: Participate in events, donate to LGBTQI+ causes, and support policies that promote equality and inclusion. Dimply’s Social Value Policy outlines our commitment to supporting community initiatives and charitable organisations that align with our values.
  5. Be Visible and Vocal: Show your support by wearing Pride-themed clothing or accessories, displaying Pride flags, and sharing supportive messages on social media. Visibility can help create a sense of belonging for members of the LGBTQI+ community.
  6. Listen and Offer Support: Sometimes the best thing you can do is listen. Be there for your LGBTQI+ colleagues, family, and friends, offering a supportive ear and validating their experiences.
  7. Promote a Safe and Inclusive Workplace: Advocate for policies and practices that ensure safety and inclusion for everyone.

Dimply’s Commitment to Inclusion

At Dimply, we recently came together as a team to develop The One Dimply Way culture deck. The aim was to allow all voices to help influence and build a company for all. As a company, we want to create the best products, to be used by everyone, so it is important that we build an environment where people are comfortable bringing their whole selves to the workplace. Our commitment to inclusivity is reflected in the following ways:

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy: This policy ensures fair treatment and opportunities for all employees, promotes awareness and understanding of EDI matters, and addresses any reported imbalances or discrimination.
  • Social Value Policy: Integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, this policy guides our efforts to create social value and promote sustainable and ethical practices across our workforce.
  • The One Dimply Way: Our cultural guide that embodies our values, beliefs, and attitudes, influencing the behaviours of everyone in the organisation. It promotes an environment where creativity thrives, excellence is the norm, and gratitude is universal.

By taking these actions and supporting our company’s initiatives, we can all contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment for our LGBTQI+ colleagues. Let's make Pride Month not just a time of celebration, but a time of meaningful action and allyship.
